MacLAURIN, Lilias Alma (Reid)

December 3, 1924 - March 23, 2024

 

Lilias MacLaurin passed away peacefully, at the age of 99, at the Hawkesbury General Hospital on Saturday, March 23, 2024. She was predeceased in 1964 by her husband Munro and in 2021, by her daughter Ann (Tim Dwyre).

 

Lilias is survived by her children James (Sheilah), Eleanor (John Birch) and Bruce. She leaves her grandchildren Ruth Dwyre (Ed Jackson), Daniel Dywre (Meghan), David Dwyre, Cailin Birch Tarling-Hunter (Dan) and Craig Birch (Whitney Crebase). Lilias is great-grandmother to Maddie Tarling-Hunter.

 

Lilias grew up on her parents’ farm near Riceville. Her parents were Guy and Vera (Hobbs) Reid. In 1943-44, she attended Ottawa Teachers’ College and taught school for two years at Breadalbane. After her husband Munro died, she taught in Hawkesbury and Vankleek Hill. Lilias loved helping children learn. In her retirement, she tutored many students in mathematics. Lilias loved music and took pleasure in learning to play the organ and the violin. She enjoyed travel, reading, scrabble and knitting.

 

Lilias was a resident at The Heritage Lodge and very much enjoyed her time there. The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at The Heritage Lodge for all they did over the years. Also, many thanks to the staff at Hawkesbury General Hospital for the compassionate care they provided.

 

Following cremation, a burial will be held at Breadalbane Cemetery at a later date.

A Tree of Remembrance for Lilias will be planted in the McAlpine Forever Forest in Vankleek Hill.
